Berkeley
Berkeley (Glo's & Avon) ST 6898. One of the greater castles that started as a shell keep (Windsor is another). This keep enclosed a motte some 62' high. Dating from the mid 12thC, it had 3 semi-cylindrical turrets inserted in the stonework.
