My ancestors had a castle in Southern England and I am trying to find some information about it. There name was Woodford, they owned it about 100 - 200 years ago. They also owned some land around it. The last family members that owned it died and the children migrated to Canada Unfortunately this is about all we know about it. Can anybody help

I am searching for my husband's family, John Woodford bn abt 1821 in England. It is said that his ancestors had a castle in England. John came to America and his first child was born in 1840 - so somewhere between 1821 and 1840, he immigated - ending up in Wisconsin, USA.

I haven't checked on a Woodford castle yet. But there is a 'Woodsford castle nr Dorchester, Dorset.
This was licensed in 1335, and finished about 1370. Most of the work by one Sir Guy de Bryan KG. After the Civil War it went to the Strangeways by marriage. An early restoration was carried out in 1850 by the builder father of Thomas Hardy, who visited often. Part of the building remaining is now owned by the 'Landmark Trust' who rent it for holidays. Just checked ... they own all the building having bought it in 1978. Hm! Its first real owner could be William de Whitefield, know as Lord of Woodsford.
