Baker, Chandler, Miller, Miner, Potter, Smith...There are thousands of these today, people named after occupations that were by no means noble. Probably, there are such names in other languages too. Is there a comprehensive list of all of them? Where they came from, what they did and such? |

There may well be, but I'd hate to think of the cost of such a volume. I have several general books on the subject. Which are pretty good. As most people are looking for a specific name (or maybe 2/3), there would be do need to access such a book. This is where a good old fashioned general library comes in handy. Peter |

Hmm. But what about an online reference? Surely there are millions of people with such names, looking to find out more about their history. |

There are; but you want to try wading through page after page. So many different sites. A lot you have to register, or even pay fees to access information. Peter |
