This excellent book was published this week by the Swiss Castles Association (Schweizerischer Burgenverein, SBV):

Schweizerischer Burgenverein (Hg.): Gesicherte Ruine oder ruinierte Burg? [Schweizer Beiträge zur Kulturgeschichte und Archäologie des Mittelalters, Band 31]. Basel 2005.

All in german, 240 pages, many plans and pictures. The authors, historians as well as archaelogists, discuss the possibilities to save castles and ruins from vanishing without destroying too much of their original substance. With many examples, positive as well as very negative ones.

Avialable at the SBV for about 75 CHF.

That sounds an excellent buy, but I think I will stick with my little 'Eglises Romanes et Chateaux Forts (Suisse Romande 1972), that I picked up cheapish last year.
