I'm building an island and I need some suggestions on how to build it. Do I just make a hill of sand and pile glue on it? Or do I make the hill out of (blank), put glue on it, and sprinkle sand on it? I'd like to hear your suggestions. Thanks.------------------ A Knight ther was, and that a worthy man, That fro the tyme that he first bigan, To ryden out, he loved chivalrye, Trouthe and honour, fredom and curteisye. --- The Canterbury Tales

Depends on what kind of island you are trying to recreate. A large rocky island, a small sandy island or what? If you want an island that doesn't have any very steep features, then glue over sand should work well, although I've never tried it. If you want to sculpt cliffs and the like you may want to build a wire frame and use 'papier mache' over it. Or a large styrofoam block, then carve out the features. Another idea would be to build up layers of cardboard(glued together) and cut it to shape, then 'papier mache' over it to smoothe out the surface.Hope that helps. |
