I'm looking for information about this castle which existed in 1906-07 and I believe is no longer standing or is an existing ruin. To Phil: Thanks so MUCH. I tried to email you a reply, but it would not go through. ------------------ janev |

Three pages of interest which may lead you to more, the second has a photo from your castle, not of it unfortunately. http://www.ist.lu/ele/html/department/zeugma/history.html http://www.ist.lu/ele/html/department/zeugma/html/birecik.html http://www.about-turkey.com/urfa.htm ------------------ 'Give me the groves that lofty brave, The storms, by Castle Gordon'. I did find these links but felt none of them had that much to offer you. All the other english links to Birecik are about a dam or birdwatching (or Damn birdwatching in my opinion). There may be Turkish or German sites with more information but both my german and Turkish are very limited (to Bratwurst and Donna Kebab). In the end your goning to have to go to a library and get some serious books on Crusader castles out. (the one written by Lawrence of Arabia before WW I is ok but I don't think it includes Birecik) Thanks for the note on my email, I'll check it out, although others have managed to get through recently.------------------ Neurotics build castles in the air, psychotics live in them, Psychiatrists charge the rent, art therapists do the interior design and nurses clean out the garderobes! http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html |
