Does anyone have a picture of Walwyn and/or Laugharne Castles? The former is in Pembrokeshire and the latter in Carmarthenshire, Wales. Supposedly the Bryan (de Brienne, de Bryan, or other various spellings) either lived there or had some other dealings with those castles. Anything would be appreciated. |

Here's one about Laugharne Castle; http://www.castlewales.com/laugharn.html It's on the website of www.castlewales.com. I suggest you use the search option on COTW and browse the extensive links section. Just do some searching and you'll find what you are looking for. Good luck.------------------ "A man's house is his castle" Visit my website at http://www.castles.nl/ [This message has been edited by Marko (edited 10-30-2001).] |

Walwyn's castle is a minor earthwork, rarely listed, and not much know about. I don't think it has been excavated. It is described as a ringwork with bailey and possible stonework. It is located at Ordnance Survey grid ref SM 872111. I have not found a picture online (or in print).------------------ Neurotics build castles in the air, psychotics live in them, Psychiatrists charge the rent, art therapists do the interior design and nurses clean out the garderobes! http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html |

I presume your interest is really with the de Brians. The CADW guidebook for Laugharne has several pages of information on the de Brian family in the medieval period. Information on obtaining the book can be found at Castles of Wales (link above). The books ISBN is 1 85760 066 5. The text is richly illustrated in colour.By the way I had the pleasure of visiting Laugharne last summer. The ruins now sit in a very beautiful garden. The custodian was very pleasant and looked after my dog whilst I wandered round the castle. Although it is not the finest of castle ruins it is certainly worth a visit. ------------------ Neurotics build castles in the air, psychotics live in them, Psychiatrists charge the rent, art therapists do the interior design and nurses clean out the garderobes! http://www.castlesontheweb.com/members/philipdavis/index.html |
