Looking for information about the Castle of Rochsburg. Built around 1100. May be linked to family name. Little information found but it may be under restoration or youth hostel. |

The Roads to Ruins http://www.roadstoruins.com/rochsburg.html site gives the data you provide, however I found a little more on a tourist guide. ROCHSBURG: Situated on a rocky spur, Rochsburg fortress tops the valley. It was occupied by the Counts of Schonburg till 1900. Attractive elements are the keep of 32 meters height, a spiral staircase in the western wing, the chapel from the 16th century, the 74-meter well from the 15th century and the wellhouse. The museum shows valuable Renaissance, Baroque and Rococo furniture and paintings. There is also a good photograph at http://www.freedomone.com/valleyof.htm ------------------ 'Give me the groves that lofty brave, The storms, by Castle Gordon'. Did some searching and found pictures and info (in german) at the following sites: - http://www.lunzenau.com/Marktplatz/Gemeinden/Rochsburg/hauptteil_rochsburg.html - http://www.badlausick-online.de/culture/umgebung/rochsburg.phtml You can also visit the official site of Rochsburg village at http://www.rochsburg.de/ , its not a very userfriendly site but if you take the time to browse through it you'll find some pictures and german info about the castle. There's also a little infosite in english at http://www.burgstaedt.de/English/HOME.HTM . If you browse through the german language section of this site you'll also find some pictures. Also if you follow the link wurdsmiff gave you finally get to http://www.freedomone.com/castle1.htm where you find 5 more pictures. ------------------ "A man's house is his castle" Visit my website at http://www.castles.nl/ [This message has been edited by Marko (edited 10-30-2001).] |

If you're struggling with German language you could always use Altavista's free translation service to help you out. OK, it's not perfect, but provides a great start.Enter the URL of the page you want translating into the relevant box: http://www.altavista.co.uk/content/translate.jsp Levan |
