The O'Sheridans of Castle Teghan has been mentioned in our family history. We have been unsuccessful in our search for the castle, we believe it was located in the Co. Cavan in Ireland. Could it be possible that it is known by another name? |

Gordon, thank you very much for your reply, the Castle Teghan is mentioned in the material I was given in the year 1014. We are fairly close in tracing the family directly back to that time frame. |

I can't find any references to it by that or other name at the moment. The date given suggests pre-norman origins, and so it may be a case that it originated as a fort of some sort. I'll check out some geneology/name history sites too and see what I can come up with. ------------------ 'Demeure par la verite' Visit; Gordon's Scottish Castles Resource Page |

Sorry, despite trying almost a dozen different dedicated Irish search engines, and checking out the name history on various sites, I can give you no more data than you have already.------------------ 'Demeure par la verite' Visit; Gordon's Scottish Castles Resource Page |

Thank you for looking, I'll see what other information I can find and let you know if you'd like. I was wondering what search engines you would recommend when looking at Irish history, so far the Latterday Saints site has been helpful in some cases. Thanks again! Deb |

The following sites give good starting points if searching for geneology links, family name histories, or local information. http://www.local.ie/ http://www.irelandseye.com/aarticles/history/place/index.shtm The following are examples of the type of thing you can find http://indigo.ie/~kfinlay/index.htm http://kola.dcu.ie/~enfo/bs/bs17.htm And this link provided some time ago by Marko gives access to a multitude of search engines across the world; http://www.twics.com/~takakuwa/search/search.html http://www.ireland-now.com/castles/menu.html http://www.historic.irishcastles.com/ ------------------ 'Demeure par la verite' Visit; Gordon's Scottish Castles Resource Page |
