Ludlow Castle (Shropshire) is supposed to be haunted by a betrayed lover (Marion La Bruyere). The castle also has a phantom, reputed to be a soldier who tried to break in to the castle.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/shropshire/features/halloween/halloween_ludlow.shtml You can't actually stay in the castle, but there's plenty of wonderful historic buildings in the town and surrounding area. I dare some of these might be haunted. In Ludlow churchyard, the phantom of a tall elderly woman with grey hair shuffles among the tombstones dressed in a long drab-coloured robe. She has also been seen near the rectory. Edward Dobson, another Ludlow ghost appears in Market Street, one of the older parts of Ludlow, and also haunts the Glove Inn where a grisly murder occurred long ago.
If that's not enough reason to go to Ludlow, one of my favourite Castles is nearby, "Stokesay Castle" which is an evocative fortified manor house. http://www.castlewales.com/stokesay.html
Ludlow also has some STUNNING restaurants - Ludlow has more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other town outside London.
Just checked, "The Globe" public house on Market Street is reputed to be haunted - also does B&B.
As far as I know, "The Feathers" is not haunted, but wonderful a wonderful building none-the-less: http://www.feathersatludlow.co.uk/main.html
