First of all, can anyone tell me the difference between a fortress and a castle and, secondly, where in Transylvania (the German section) would I find interesting castles (or fortresses) to visit?

hi

Transsylvania is part of Romania, so don't exactly know what you mean with the German section of Transsylvania.

I know that before 1945 there have lived German speaking people in Transsylvania, but everywhere as a minority and they called Transsylvania Siebenburgen (seven castles), what probably means that were and maybe are many castles (i don't exactly know Romanian castles isn't mine strong side).

Thank you so much for your reply. Several of the pictures in that website were, in fact, in Transylvania. Yes, the area I am looking for is where the Siebenbuerger Sachsen lived. My next step now is to find them on the map.
Once again, thank you very much for your reply.

You can find more about the Siebenbuerger Sachsen on the following site, and maybe also on Siebenbuerger Kirchenburger (Churchcastles):

PERFECT! Absolutely perfect! These two websites have everything in them I could possibly need! You have saved me hours of researching. Obviously, I won't need to look any farther.
I owe you a big dinner for this!
Keep up the excellent work you are doing. I promise when I get back, I will post my pictures of the castles (if I can figure out how to do it.)
Thank you again.
