Topic: Film - Castle Keep?

I have searched for the answer for several hours over the last few days & can't find it anywhere. Can you help? I would like to know the name and location of the Castle that was used in the filming of the 1969 film "Castle Keep" starring Burt Lancaster. Also, received no response from "Columbia Tri - Star" when we sent an e-mail. An elderly man contacted a relative of mine & she has been researching this as well, I am simply trying to help him find the answer. He hopes to visit the castle someday (he is 81 years old), was in the service & has many memories of the film. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. |

It is obviously that it is a 19th century castle, or better said a castle rebuilt in the 19th century (look at the balcony, the colours of the stone gives away, that has been built in at a later time than the other parts). At first sight I thought about something english, the stye reminded me to castles like bodiam or arundel. But on a second sight, I think it is something French, because of the horseman in his alcove above the entrance. I resembles very much the horseman in his alcove (depicting king louis XIII) in the castle of Blois on the Loire. As first possibility I thought about Roquetaillaide near Bordeaux. But this one isn't it, as you can see on the next picture.

Which castle it really is, is still a question for me. But I will look further, and hopefully many others.

I tried out another option when I first began looking, I e-mailed the Library of Congress. I PRAY they're wrong, but the following is their reply.

AMERICAN LIFE** by Kate Buford, the castle you are referring to does not exist.
The castle was actually a one million dollar Styrofoam construction built in
Sremska Kamenica formerly Yugoslavia now Serbia and Montenegro. I apologize for being the bearer of bad news. If you need further assistance,
