Sorry all this took so long, but it all had to go via Pony Express. I sent a card to mate of mine who knows every hump and bump in Yorkshire. And he really came up with nothing spelt like that. There are a number of villages with that name, but none in Yorkshire, and none with castles. There is of course Halton Castle, Runcorn, Cheshire. Also Hylton Castle, Sunderland. There is a Halton castle NE of Lancaster. After that you really would be strecthing the name to make it fit. Peter |

At http://www.southern-style.com/bursonram/pafg118.htm it says that "Aubrey FitzRichard was born in 1158 in Holton Castle, Skipton, Yorkshire, England". However, I can find nothing else.Regards, Paul. |

It is a strange one that Paul, would be interesting to know more. My mate Steve came up with a few suggestions near Skipton, and said at a pinch they could be classed as such, but these were; Barden Tower, Farnhill fortified house, And I think (his writings terrible!) |Gargrave moat, Norton Tower. Also Hellifield Peel but that is much further away. What I'll do is run this page off and re-send it to him. Being from Almondbury, he is closer to sources than we are. See what happens! Peter | |
