hello my name is abel and i am 14 and in the 8th grade we have been given a project on medieval castles and to create a brochure my question is who introduced the first european style castles into britain?

Hi,although there were a small number of castles in Britain before the Norman conquest of 1066, the Normans or the Norman/French must be given the credit for the introduction of castles in Britain.

Edward the Confessor invited some Normans to come and help hom defend the welsh border. One of these knights, Richard Fitzcrob, built a fortress known as Richard's castle, near Ludlow. This was of a type new to England. There were a few private fortresses before that, as Paul said.
