I have been told there was three Castle's in Glasgow but failed to find any information on them, i know there used to be one were the royal hospital is at the top of high street but can anyone help with the other two ? I am doing this for my teacher it's not a project as such but if i find any information on all three i get extra credits. Please forgive me if any rules are broken with this post it's my first time on a forum. ------------------ [This message has been edited by Castlemilk (edited 10-21-2007).] [This message has been edited by Castlemilk (edited 10-21-2007).] |

Yes where the St Mungo's Museum is now, was Glasgow Castle, Castlemilk was another, Auldhouse near Thornliebank was a fortified house, Cathcart,Carmunnock, Lochwood, at Bishop's Loch near Easterhouse, Provanhall is a fortified house, Darnley, Crookston, Pollok House replaced a series of 3-4 castles on or near that site, one of which Haggs is still standing, Cardonald Place was a castle of the hall house type, Cloberhill, Drumry Peel.....there are others which were probable castles or fortified houses, taking the list of sites within the current city boundaries to a total of more than 30. Here's links with data on some of them; http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1523 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1250 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1435 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1431 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1440 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1186 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=29 http://www.castleduncan.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1354 The confirmed sites; Glasgow, Cloberhill, Drumry Peel, Lochwood, Castlemilk, Carmunnock, Provanhall, Crookston, Partick, Darnley, Cardonald, Auldhouse, Pollok.
