The fortress of Belgrade, situated above the mouth of the rivers Sava and Danube, is a complex of various fortifications: ancient Roman, Byzantine and medieval Serbian, as well as of more recent artillery structures. Surrounded by the present-day Kalemegdan Park it represents the foremost archaeological and historical site of Belgrade.
